Winter Run Final Details

After much debate on small specifics we have come to some final conclusions.

We will be meeting at the Waffle House (7809 East Ben White Boulevard, Austin, Tx) @ 10 a.m.  From there we are on to Smitty's in Lockhart for some BBQ and then we'll be on our way straight down to the coast.  The previous map I posted, showed our route going through Corpus Christi and onto the Island, but we have decided it would be better to head straight to Port Aransas and cross over on the ferry (free of charge).

For any additional info, you can call me @ 512 698 4390.

Winter Run Camping Details

We have contacted Mustang Island State park and got the following information:

There is a 1.5 mile stretch of beach for "primitive campsites". These campsites are for up to 8 people and are 8 dollars per campsite. Since we will likely have more than 8 people camping, we are allowed to set up "campsites" right next to each other. I explained to them that we will be on motorcycles and that was not a problem. The total fee's are 4 dollars per person and 8 dollars per campsite. There are convenience stations with toilets, rinsing showers and bulk water supply located in the primitive camping area. The gates to the park are locked after 10pm, however we will be provided with a code, in order to come and go as we please.

More info located here: Mustang Island State Park

Directions: To reach the park, travel southeast from Corpus Christi on State Highway 358 to Padre Island; cross the JFK Causeway; continue one mile to traffic light; turn left onto State Highway 361 (used to be Park Road 53), and go 5 miles north to park headquarters for a total distance of about 22 miles. The physical address of the park is 17047 State Hwy 361.

Winter Run Route

Here is the route mapped out.  No crazy schedules are being set, but we are planning on leaving Austin no later than 9 a.m., so we can hit up some lunch in Lockhart and be on the road to Port Aransas sooner than later.

Austin - Lockhart = 29.3 Miles
Lockhart - Mustang State Park = 192 Miles

There are plenty of small towns and gas stops so we have that covered and I have some family meeting up with us in Port Aransas to provide some food (homemade chili among other things) and beverages (adult beverages included).

Buy some long johns, get your heated grips and seats installed at the dealership and get to riding.

Jason's Ironhead

Jason brought this '73 sporty over to weld on some various mounts.  There are some very cool parts to this machine and we are all looking forward to seeing it on the road.

Sportster Update

Things with the XLH are starting to come together. We extended the brake rod, so now I have a rear brake. Did the basic fender mounts this week as well. I need to get a sissy bar in place to pull it together and get it to sit just right. I picked one up from Dave Sr. yesterday. With a little tweaking, we should be able to get that situated soon.In reassembling I noticed that I don't have all the parts for my clutch I need. That really proves that the guy I bought this from never had it riding. This week I will pick up pushrods, a new brake cable, and a battery.
